Netscape 4 was where I first learned Dynamic HTML.

I’d always used javascript for browser and plug-in detects along with time based display and some simple calculations, but when it came to animation I’d always go back to Shockwave. Netscape 4 changed all that. It allowed my animations to escape the enclosed Shockwave box and fly around the screen. Objects could be hidden and then reappear later. Presentations could move from being flat and static to being dimensional and occuring over time. Netscape 4 may have some short comings, but with some clever programming you can learn to do nearly everything in Netscape 4 that you can do in IE4.
