Reverend John Rule was the son of John C. Rule and Helena Voorhees, both born at Kingston, New Jersey and both interred at Hillcrest Cemetery Perryville, Kentucky. Mary Woolfolk was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Woolfolk born ' January 2,1799 in Caroline County, Virginia, died September 8, 1852 at Goshen, Ky. Interred in family burial lot located on U.S. Route # 42 1.95 miles north of the Oldham County line on property owned by Mr. Almond Cook [1959] 0.62 miles from entrance. Also in same cemetery is the grave of Edmund Woolfolk, father of Thomas Jefferson Woolfolk.

Names of the children of Reverand John Rule & Mary Woolfolk Rule. Christian [baptismal] names not identified as to source and or meaning. Middle name - Woolfolk, maiden name of Mother. - Brank after Reverend Robert G. Brank,D.D. pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church, Lexington, Kentucky which was attended by the Rule family.- Voohrees, the maiden name of the grandmother.- Richards, source unknown except that a "Mrs. Richards" was known to have been active in the Harrods Creek Presbyterian Church and was a member of the congregation of Reverend John Rule's church in Goshen, Ky. and was described as 'the finest woman of the congregation' -Exception,Lucien Rev.Lucien B. The Reverend John Rule came to Kentucky in 1851 with his family. He became an apprentice in his Uncle's [Armstrong] flour and carding mill, at Perryville, Ky. He moved, with his brothers to Lexington, Ky. and established a carriage shop. He was a student, along with his twin brother at the old Transylvania College, Lexington, Ky. before entering the sophomore class at Center College, Danville, Ky. He was graduated with the class of 1861. He was accepted at Princeton University, Princeton, N.J. and was graduated with the class of 1864. He was selected Resident Pastor of the Goshen Presbyterian Church, Oldham County, Goshen, KY in 1864. He was ordained by the Louisville Presbytery on September 4, 1869. Reverend John Rule spent his entire life serving the Presbyterian Churches in Oldham County, Ky. He was a farmer by profession and brought into Kentucky the first blooded Jersey Bulls for his dairy heard, and the first imported Italian Queen bees for his hives.
