Birth dates New Jersey, recorded at The Kingston Presbyterian Church, Kingston founded in 1732.

The information which follows has been taken from the book, "The Light Bearers" by Lucien V. Rule, copyright 1926 and published at Louisville Kentucky. For economic and health reasons Helena Voorhees Rule together with her son Ferdinand Schenck Rule carne to Kentucky together with John and Jane Rule in 1850. Her husband, John C. Rule followed with the rest of the family in 1851, first going; to Perryville, Ky. and then in 1863 John and Jane Rule moved to Lexington, Kentucky with some of the children following. The boys, while in Perryville, were employed by their Uncle William Armstrong who had married Elizabeth Rule, and moved to Kentucky in 1848.

There is an interesting account of the trip of John C. Rule and his family from Princeton, N. J. to Kentucky. They came by train from Philadelphia to Harrisburg, Pa. , then to the foot of the Allegheny Mountains . The train was pulled up car by car minus the engine, by an engine on the mountaintop with a cable. Then by train to Johnstown, Pa. then by canal boat at Johnstown for Pittsburgh. Then by river steamer to Louisville, KY. The entire trip cost only $35.00 per person.

It was in the fall of 1853 when the Rule brothers moved. to Lexington, KY where they opened a carriage shop. It was in Lexington that John Rule and his twin brother Abram were encouraged to study for the Presbyterian ministry and the two boys entered College together at Center in Danville, Kentucky.

It is interesting to note that William Armstrong. son of John Armstrong and Rebecca Rule Armstrong [daughter of Charles and Jane Johnstone Rule] had twin daughters , Rose and Lilly.

Peter and William Rule following their venture with the other brothers in the carriage business, went into the lumber business which failed. Rev. John Rule placed a mortgage on his Goshen farm to help pay of their debts. To my knowledge neither Peter or William had issue. They are interred at Lexington, Ky.
