Captain John Rule came from
Yorkshire, England, and settled at Kingston, New Jersey. He was sent over by an English Company to
take charge of a copper mine at Griggstown, New Jersey, where he was captain or
foremen. He married Sarah Thompson, a
Scotch lady. Miss Thompson was an
adopted daughter of a family by the name of Melrose, who came from
Scotland.
They had two children, Charles and John.
